About Us

What is Queen's AutoDrive?

Our Team

Queen's AutoDrive is one of two Canadian universities invited to compete in the development of a Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle. Over the next four years, teams will be evaluated at the MCity testing facility from the University of Michigan, as they progress to full autonomy.

Our Mission

Our team aspires to learn as much as we can about autonomous driving with this unique opportunity. We foster an interesting and supportive environment for students to contribute.

Team Structure

The team is made up of seven separate divisions or sub-teams.

Infrastructure

The Infrastructure Team designs, builds, and integrates all hardware, electrical, and firmware systems. Key projects include our custom halo top and sensor suite to wiring the in-vehicle computers power and data systems, building trunk mounts, and developing embedded firmware.

Perception

The Perception Team develops, integrates, and validates advanced computer vision systems and algorithms using a multi-camera and LiDAR sensor suite, and a front mounted RADAR, transforming raw sensor data into accurate, real-time environmental construction and understanding.

Communications

The Communications Team prepares detailed reports and engaging presentations for judges, effectively showcasing the team's progress, technical achievements, and project milestones.

Autonomy

The Autonomy Team uses the rendered environment to design and implement decison planning and motion control systems and algorithms, validating in both in simulations and real-world testing.

Operations

The Operations Team handles internal and external communications, maintains sponsor relationships, runs social media channels, organizes major events like design reviews and street booths, and oversees team merchandise.

Simulation & Integration

The Simulation & Integration Team develops and maintains high-fidelity simulation environments to rigorously test and validate our software. They integrate our perception and autonomy stacks, ensuring cohesive performance before real-world deployment.

Embedded Systems

The Embedded Systems Team manages the in-vehicle communication system with our server, ensuring reliable, real-time data exchange.
